Fixing White Balance on Mac Air

With the release of the M4 Air I was ready to upgrade my M1 Air. After using Migration Assistant and getting to my desktop and into Chrome, I realized my colors looked... off. My white looked very yellow. Searching around I didn't find any conclusive reasoning, just things about the display types being different. I was able to find how to fix it, anyway. Macs include the ability to easily calibrate your monitor.

Fixing Improper Whites

Fixing the improper white balance is actually super easy:

  1. Go to "System Settings"
  2. Go to "Displays"
  3. Select the "Color Profile" dropdown
  4. Select the "Customize..." option
  5. Select (highlight) your current color profile
  6. Click the "+" button in the "Customize..." window to bring up Calibrator Assistant
  7. Click "Continue" until you reach the "Select a target white point"
  8. Adjust the white point slider to your liking.
  9. Continue through the Calibrator Assistant wizard until done.
And that's it. Hopefully your white looks correct to you now! I used Figma's color page to validate my new display vs my old one.
